Presidents Weekly Report

Each week the President of the Semaphore & Port Adelaide RSL will give a wrap-up of the weekend activities and let everyone know about up-coming happenings at the Sub-Branch.

Hi Members and Friends,

I hope you all had a safe and happy Easter weekend. For myself it's been a weekend of relaxing with family, BBQs with friends and too much chocolate!

Last Thursday night we held our Members’ night with a cash draw jackpot of $1,000! All but one of us will be happy to hear that Nathan Mula was not at the club to collect the cash, so up it goes to $1100 this Friday. That has to be worth coming in to the club for an hour or two this Friday.

Hi Members

Our biggest day of the year, Anzac Day, is not too far away. Did you know our Dawn Service on the beautiful Semaphore foreshore attracts thousands of people, reputably second only in numbers to the North Tce service in the city? Of course it doesn’t happen without the hard work of many volunteers. If you haven’t already, please volunteer an hour or two of your time on the day so that we can continue to provide an outstanding service for our community.

Hello again members and friends,

Happy to report we had another very busy week at the Semaphore Port Adelaide RSL. The regular 8 Ball competition on Wednesday night saw a substantial crowd in the club, enjoying our facilities and the best views of the Semaphore foreshore and sunset. We continue to support our 8 Ball team with RSL sponsorship. This year they are planning a bigger than ever competition and I’ll bring you more details as they evolve.

On Friday night Theresa and I cooked dinner for our Member’s Night and thanks to all who braved our cooking and supported the club. I did get some good feedback that everyone was happy with the meals by the way. The person who could have been $500 richer was Michael Brice but unfortunately he wasn’t there, so that means this week’s Members’ Cash Draw is a BIG $600.

On Saturday night we were proud to host and support the Priceline Sisterhood Foundation’s Quiz Night. Over 80 trivia buffs had a fantastic time raising money for this worthy cause and our very own Red Hot Trivia Peppers team (comprising some of our committee and friends) came an honourable 2nd place by a very small 4 point margin. Well done Peppers!!

This week we have Open Mic Night on Thursday and our new Chef Geoff is offering a fantastic “All You Can Eat” pasta/rice/couscous meal deal for $12 and $8 for members. And of course, Friday night is Members’ night with Chef Geoff’s new menu and the chance to win $600 and the meat tray raffle.

IMPORTANT: This Sunday is General Meeting day and we encourage ALL members to attend. We have a full program for the afternoon. Come along for lunch from 12noon with a choice of 4 mains and 2 desserts for $12 (Bargain!!) followed by the meeting at 1pm and all members that attend the meeting will be entitled to a free drink. At the conclusion of the meeting we will have local band “Grid The Band” playing for an afternoon of fun and entertainment. For catering purposes if you are intending to have lunch before the meeting please let Secretary David Kerr know by texting him on 0417865623.

Hi again Members and Friends

Hope you are all enjoying Adelaide’s “Mad March” Festival Season. There have been some busy and colourful events around Semaphore and Port Adelaide these past couple of weeks, with many people enjoying the sunshine and the fun.

Our week at the club started with an Open Mic Night on Thursday and we had some new young talent to entertain us. It’s really inspiring to see these young school aged kids getting up there, giving it their best. I hope to see them back next time. And also great to see one of the club elders, Raymond Todd tinkle the ivories, he’s an inspiration to us all.

The Member’s Cash Draw didn’t go off again, sorry to say that Duncan Wright was not there to collect his $400 but its good news for the rest of you with $500 up for grabs this Friday! Make sure you’re there for the draw! Rose Pisani was happy to win this week's meat tray raffle. Also, this coming Friday night we have one of our members as a very special guest. Brian Riddiford is donating his family medals for display at the club, so make sure you come along to thank and support him.

On Saturday night we are hosting the Priceline Sisterhood Foundation Quiz Night to raise money for its five charity partners, which help women and families affected by serious illness. 100% of money raised on the night will go to those causes. There are only a handful of tickets left so if you are interested be quick and email Jade on This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. or text 0402334368.

Please remember the General Meeting on 19th March at 1pm. Only financial members can attend so if you haven’t renewed your membership this year, please do so before the meeting. The club will open at 12noon for members and a roast lunch will be available for $12 and each member who attends the meeting will receive a free drink. The club will open to the public on completion of the meeting and popular local band “Grid the Band” will provide entertainment for the remainder of the afternoon.

Another important date for your diary – Friday 24th March is Karaoke Night! Come along for Member’s Club night and stay for Karaoke 7pm-11pm. Invite your friends, it will be a fun night!

Don’t forget Anzac Day is coming up next month. It’s a big day for the club but it doesn’t happen without a huge team of volunteers and support from our members. Please let us know if you are able to volunteer. There will be a list on the noticeboard near the bar in the next week or so.

Finally, our next Bunnings Woodville Sausage Sizzle is on Thursday 30th March and we need more volunteers. Please register your availability with Maggie Shaw by texting her on 0497 107 876. Just a couple of hours in your day is all that’s needed so please help out if you can, it’s a great opportunity to help raise funds for your club.

See you at the club soon and check out the links below for information on upcoming events

Hi Members and friends,

Another week down and another week closer to Xmas, believe me it will be here very quickly. Has anybody noticed that the hot cross buns are already on the shelves.

Anyway back to the news at hand, I was away most of last week between Brisbane and Newcastle so I have had to rely on the committee for all the news in the club this week.

Thursday night was Open MIC night and again very well ran by our own Secretary David Kerr, and according to all reports a nice turnout with some good talent on display, I hope to be there for the next one.

Friday night was club night again with the usual meat tray raffle and cash draw.
The name drawn out was Sally McMillan who unfortunately wasn't in the club so this weeks jackpot will be $300.
I would also like to thank Vice President Shane Edmonson for stepping up to the mark in my absence on Friday night.

This Friday night will also see the first night of our new chef.  We have a new menu including a vegetarian option, so why not support your club and drop in for a meal.

It's only a few weeks away now until our next Bunnings BBQ, on the 30th March so if you can spare an hour or 2 please put your name down, it is only with the support of volunteers that the club can continue to raise funds for the welfare of our returned service men and women.

Dates to remember:
Saturday 11th March Priceline Sisterhood quiz night.
Saturday 25th March Defence Shed poker night

Hope to see you all in the club soon

Hi Members and Friends,

Another week has passed and already the shops are setting up for Easter.

Friday night was Members club night as usual with meals on offer from Southern Cross. The meat tray raffle was won by Trevor White, I may have to start rubbing his belly for luck, he's on a bit of a hot streak lately.

The name drawn out for the cash jackpot was Renae Fritzel-Flint, who unfortunately was not in attendance so this weeks jackpot will be $200.

This week we have on Thursday Night, Open MIC, even if you don't participate this is a fun evening, so why not bring a friend, grab a feed and watch some really good local talent.

Also this Friday will be the last night that Southern Cross Hospitality will be running the kitchen, so let's give them a good send off and come in for a meal. I would like to wish Matt and his staff all the best in the future and say thanks from the club for all his support.

This Friday I will also be away attending a function in the beautiful vineyards of South Australia, but I am more than sure you will be well looked after by Vice President Shane
and the rest of the staff.

For the diary:
Priceline Sisterhood Quiz Night 11th March
Defence Shed Poker Night 25th March

Will see you at the club soon

PRESIDENT'S BLOG

Hi Members,

What a great week it has been at the club again, I have many things to tell you about and lots of photos to show you.

On Friday night the 225th Battalion sent us a Catafalque Party to help with the ode, and what a fantastic job they did, it made for a very special ode ceremony on the night. Thank you also for the plaque presented to the Sub-Branch.

G'day Viewers...(to quote an old Paul Hoganism)

Late last week Theresa and I flew north to sunny Hervey Bay in Queensland to attend a Unit Reunion and we had a great time. I heard that the club was rocking on Friday night in anticipation of the Member's cash draw of $400. Antonio Attanasio from Blackwell Funerals was unable to attend as our guest fire lighter due to ill health and we all wish Antonio a speedy recovery - Vice President Shane Edmonds filled the void and did a great job.

Hi Members,

Another week has passed and here I am again to bring you up to date with what's been going on at your RSL.

Friday night was bitterly cold and you could have been forgiven for staying at home but we did have a nice turn out, for those that braved the weather and all was much better once the fire was alight and the port warmed our hearts.
