Herbert Charles Sansom, born 21st May, 1891, lived at Turton Street Semaphore, married Lydia May Martin, daughter of William John Martin of Water St. Semaphore.

His Father in-law William John Martin at this time was serving in Egypt, Trooper 774, 1st Australian Remount Unit, Squadron 3.

Herbert enlisted on the 7th of October 1915 in the Australian Imperial Forces No. 11107 and embarked from Outer Habour on board HMAT Afric A19, 9 June 1916 bound for Southampton England.

He Ranked as Driver 3 Divisional Train A.I.F. No. 22-25 Company, Army Service Corp, 1st Reinforcements May - June. He Proceeded to France and his areas of service included St, Omer, Boulogue, Trouville and Havre, and he was hospitalised on numerous occasions.

He returned to Australia 12 June 1919 on the ship Hermislooles and was discharged 8th August 1919.

Herbert died on 20th June 1957.
