CHAPLIN, Albert Reginald Victor

(Pte) Albert Reginald Victor Chaplin

Pte Albert Reginald Victor Chaplin, 12th Battalion (right), both of Alberton, SA. He enlisted on 11 May 1915 and embarked from Adelaide aboard RMS Morea on 26 August 1915. On 1 March 1916 Pte Albert Chaplin transferred to 52nd Battalion. He was promoted to Sergeant on 4 July 1916 and was killed in action in France on 4 September 1916 aged 26.

PEARMAN, Edward George

(Pte) Edward George Pearman

Pte Edward George Pearman (middle row right) of Rosewater enlisted in August 1915 and embarked for overseas on 27 October 1915 aboard HMAT Benalla. He was captured by the enermy at Pozieres on 22 August 1916. Photo shows 14 Australian Prisoners of War (POW) in German POW camp at Munster. He was repatriated to England in December 1918 and arrived back in Australia on 21 March 1919.

(Pte) Peter McDonnell

Private Peter McDonnell, 27th Battalion, of Rosewater, SA, with his wife Isabel, and daughter Matilda. A labourer prior to enlistment, Pte McDonnell embarked with the 6th Reinforcements from Adelaide on HMAT Benalla on 27 October 1915. He transferred to the 10th Battalion with the new service number 2740B. On 19 August 1916 he was killed in action in France, aged 22.

Private (Pte) Spencer Gifford Welfare, 4th Battalion, of Semaphore, SA. A blacksmith before enlisting in March 1916, Pte Welfare left Australia for England with the 22nd Reinforcements in November 1916 and arrived in France for service on the Western Front in March 1917.

Staff Sergeant Thomas Crichton of Alberton served as a Clerk with the 11th Field Ambulance. His unit embarked from Port Adelaide, on board HMAT A29 Suevic on 31 May 1916. He received a Meritorious Service Medal for his work in SOMME.

Trooper (Tpr) John Welsh, 3rd Reinforcements, 50th Battalion, of Port Adelaide, SA, aged 42 years, seated on a horse. Pte Welsh enlisted on 7 March 1916 and embarked from Adelaide aboard HMAT Seang Bee on 13 July 1916. He returned to Australia on 27 August 1917.

George Kirvan, 50th Battalion from Port Adelaide, South Australia. A shearer prior to enlisting on 11 January 1916, he embarked for overseas with the 15th Reinforcements of the 10th Battalion from Adelaide on 9 March 1916 aboard RMS Mongolia. He was awarded a Military Medal in June 1917.

(Liet Col) Colonel Edward Joseph Parks, DSO MC

Lieutenant Colonel Edward Joseph Parks, DSO MC, 16th Battalion, of Largs Bay, SA enlisted on 20 May 1915 and embarked from Adelaide, SA, aboard HMAT Kanowna on 24 June 1915. He was Mentioned in Despatches three times and was awarded the Military Cross on 24 August 1917, and the Distinguished Service Order on 3 June 1919. He returned to Australian aboard HAMT Port Denison on 23 November 1919.
