(Pte) Albert Reginald Victor Chaplin

Pte Albert Reginald Victor Chaplin, 12th Battalion (right), both of Alberton, SA. He enlisted on 11 May 1915 and embarked from Adelaide aboard RMS Morea on 26 August 1915. On 1 March 1916 Pte Albert Chaplin transferred to 52nd Battalion. He was promoted to Sergeant on 4 July 1916 and was killed in action in France on 4 September 1916 aged 26.

Description

Studio portrait of two brothers, 3780 Private (Pte) Lancelot George Chaplin, 27th Battalion (left) and 2584 Pte Albert Reginald Victor Chaplin, 12th Battalion (right), both of Alberton, SA. Pte Lancelot Chaplin enlisted on 4 May 1915 and embarked from Adelaide aboard HMAT Miltiades on 7 February 1916. Pte Albert Chaplin enlisted on 11 May 1915 and embarked from Adelaide aboard RMS Morea on 26 August 1915. On 1 March 1916 Pte Albert Chaplin transferred to 52nd Battalion. He was promoted to Sergeant on 4 July 1916 and was killed in action in France on 4 September 1916 aged 26. The brothers inscribed the portrait to their sister Florence Annie Chaplin (later Mrs Hector Davies). "To our sister with best love" (lower right corner).
