Graham (Chook) Wilson was born at Medindee Adelaide – (by coincidence in the same hospital as Thomas “Diver” Derrick) and grew up on his parent’s farm between Lyndoch and Williamstown. He attended Lyndoch Primary and then Nuriootpa High School where he joined the Army Cadet Unit in 1968. He served in the Unit as it’s CQMS (Company Quarter Master Seargent) and then a CUO (Cadet Under Officer) and after leaving school he remained on as an Officer Of Cadets. In 1971 he joined the CMF with B Squadron, 3/9th South Australian Mounted Rifles at Gawler. He then transfered to the 10th Battallion, Royal South Australian Regiment for a few years before then returning to the 3/9th as an Armoured Personnel Carrier driver.
On leaving school he worked on the family diary and grazing farm for a few years before then joining Chateau Yaldara Wines, Lyndoch, where he worked in all facets of the wine industry for 5 years and then moved into state and national management positions throughout Australia. Graham was with Chateau Yaldara in those roles for 22 years. He then undertook many different roles, self employment ventures and various employment positions, far too many to mention here (ask him for his business card which lists some 40 such undertakings).
Graham has travelled extensively throughout Europe (where he studied and learnt German), America, Canada and New Zealand, having spent 2 ½ years living and travelling overseas.
Graham studied accounting as a mature age student and successfully completed his Advanced Diploma of Accounting with distinction being awarded the “Most outstanding Student of the Year” Award. He also has a Diploma in Financial Planning. Graham is the Managing Director of Tick Tax Accountants in Port Adelaide and is passionate about the RSL and what it stands for.
