Lieutenant Colonel William Francis James "Billy" McCann CMG, DSO, OBE, MC & Bar, (right) was a teacher from Glanville, SA prior to enlistment on 24 August 1914 and embarked from Adelaide, SA with the 10th Battalion aboard Transport A11 Ascanius on 20 October 1914.
Lance Corporal Alfred Beryl Hounslow 522, a Wood machinist fromWater Street, Semaphore, South Australia, prior to enlistment 5 July 1915 aged 50, he embarked with the 32nd Battalion, B Company from Adelaide, South Australia, on board HMAT A2 Geelong on 18 November 1915.
Private (Pte) Bertie Chloride Dawe, 50th Battalion. A labourer from Port Adelaide, South Australia, prior to enlistment, he embarked from Adelaide on 12 August 1916 aboard HMAT Ballarat for Devonport, England.
Bugler Henry Walter Seymour Dumbrill, 10th Battalion, of Semaphore, SA. An engineer's apprentice before enlisting in October 1914 at the age of 16 years and eleven months.
Private John Richard Samuel Gage 27th Battalion, C Company of Rosewater enlisted the day after his 18th birthday, on the 22nd February 1915. His face is that of a young boy and it is quite likely that the enlistment officer would have been concerned that he may have been attempting to over-state his age. His younger brother, Frederick William Gage did exactly that just one month later.
Frederick William Gage 27th Battalion, 2nd Reinforcements of Rosewater had just turned 17 when he enlisted on 1 March 1915. He mis-stated his age at 19 years 2 months. One would have to say that his appearance in his photograph is more consistent with his real age rather than his stated age. He cites 9 months service in the Senior Cadets prior to enlistment.
Private Henry John Hewish, 10th Battalion. A railway employee from Alberton, South Australia, prior to enlistment, he embarked with the 13th Reinforcements from Adelaide on 11 January 1916 aboard HMAT Borda (A30) for Suez.
